3 things for 3 bucks!

I enjoyed a coffee and Op shop visit with my sister in law, Ash, yesterday morning. We both found some cute stuff. i spent $3 and walked away with a pair of blue sandles for Miss Coleman to grow into, a gorgeous high waisted blue skirt with awesome pockets for ME, and a little Mr. Men toy for Coleman Jnr's obsession/collection (which is also blue.)
I must have really felt like being surrounded by blue today!! What's your favourite colour at the moment?

Unicorns!

I quickly whipped up a little gift for one of the very sweet girls in Coleman Jnr's class. She loves Unicorns and unfortunatly we couldn't make it to her Birthday Party, but I hope she loved this handmade "Unicorn" bag!! After googling "unicorn" (and finding some pretty weird stuff out there!!) I finally found a basic picture of a unicorn that I was happy with. I used it to make a Unicorn shape with felt and handstiched it to the bag (which was simply a piece of material folded in half and sewn together, plus a little strap.)
Materials used: An op shopped floral sheet and red sparkly felt from Taiwan. (The floral sheet has been getting quite a work out...have a look at my "all you need is love cushion"-to your right!) What "quick crafts" have whipped up recently? Mezz x

How to host a very stress-free CRAFTERNOON.

There is nothing better then setting time aside with your mates to prioritise creativity, rather then just tucking it in at the end of your day for a few minutes before bed. I love a good Crafternoon (or Craftermorning, but it just doesn’t have the same ring to it) so I tought i'd share my tips on how to host a stress free one. Internet land is full of "How to host crafternoon" instructions, so I’m sorry if I'm repeating what you've already read. However, some of the plans I've found online are pretty full on, so I've figured out my own way of hosting them so they are easy peasy lemon squeazy.

-Pick a date, and time (you will need to allow at least 3-4 hours.)

-Invite a group of friends to your place. Text, phone or email is cool. If you facebook it, remember you might exclude a few really cool people who aren't on facebook (like me, or your Grandma) so bare that in mind.

-Be flexible with the time. I like to tell my friends that I’ll be home and crafting say, between 10-2 and they can come for the whole time, or drop in for an hour or so. Up to them.

-Set a loose theme, just for fun. So far I have hosted Christmas and Easter Crafternoons. I'm sure you can be more creative then me with your theme.

-When inviting friends, tell them to bring their own craft project to work on. That way you are not responsible for supplying materials or teaching everyone how to do something. The idea is that you’re getting together and making, not running a class!! And even though everybody is working on their own thing, it's amazing how by the end of the day ideas are being shared and different skills are being taught.

-Ask everybody to bring a yummy snack to share, and you'll supply the cuppas.

-if your time together runs across a meal time such as lunch or dinner, ask people to RSVP whether or not they will be there for a feed. Provide a very simple meal (such as DIY salad rolls.) You don't want to spend your day in the kitchen, it’s a Crafternoon! So keep it simple and stress free.

-If possible, set up a large clear table so that your friends will have a decent workspace. I also usually set my sewing machine up so that others can use it if they need.

-Will there be kids present? Make sure they have something to do/watch.

-fill the CD player or Record Player full of good tunes.

-And that’s it. Simple. Don't get stressed by making it difficult for yourself. Hosting a Crafternoon should be fun!!

Another birthday!!!

This time it was Coleman Jnr's turn to celebrate. He had a great time at his Mr. Men Birthday Party in our backyard. I was pretty busy on the day being Little Miss I Make The Party Happen so I forgot to take many photos, but here's a quick peak at a few things we got up to...

Party food. Yes, we kept it simple, and very party-ish. Fairy bread, honey joys, home made sausage rolls and home made chicken nuggets and chips (no, I'm not apologising for a small amount of junk at a party!) Old school.

Party Bags for his friends. Inside was a honey joy, a fairtrade chocolate and a homemade Mr. Strong magnet.

I wish I had also taken a photo of the Mr. Happy Birthday cake, Pin the Nose on Mr. Sneeze, our cute decorataions and the kids playing Musical Statues with a bit of a Mr Men and Little Miss theme! Oh well, you will just have to imagine it and take my word that it was a very lovely day.

I'll be in touch soon with a few more crafty adventures.

Birthday time!

One of my lovely sister in laws (I have heaps of lovely sister in laws by the way!!) had a birthday recently. Being quite a creative minx, and a huge lover of all things second hand, I always enjoy coming up with a gift for her.

Some nice material from my stash that I know she likes.

A large dress from the local Op shop for her "bump" to grow into (she's expecting her first bubba in August.)And when it's too big for her, she'll be able to use the material to make something else, as it's very cute!

A pot holder. She is collecting op shopped pot holders and hopes to turn them all into a quilt one day.

A set of 4 napkins that I whipped up. This bright material will suit her cute floral kitchen.

A simple home made birthday card, using a cut out picture from a magazine, and my favourite ever letter stamps.

Happy Birthday lovey. Hope you liked the gifts!
