Welcome, little man!

Congratulations to my little brother Pete, and his wife Taz on the arrival of their brand new son! He (I won't tell you his name, I feel weird about putting kids names out there in internet land) is wonderful, and is also the spitting image of my own little Coleman Jnr when he arrived 6 years ago. Meeting my newest nephew was quite surreal...I felt like I was meeting my newborn son again!

On a more creative note, I quickly whipped up a card to welcome our little nephew taking the lyrics by Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly as my inspiration "from little things, big things grow" and cooked up a chicken casserole for mama and papa.

Pete and Taz are both wonderfully creative people, so I thought I'd take the opportunity of celebrating their bubba to plug their creative pursuits as well! Pete is a musician and you can hear tracks from both of his albums here. (I sang backing vocals for a few tracks, which was fun.)  Taz writes the lovely blog Butter and Buntings, mostly about her sewing and baking. She's one creative lady!

Anyway, they're both great! And the newest member of their family is pretty darn great too!

It's true what they say. Once you pick up crochet, it's hard to stop. I used to watch my sister in law Ash crochet and think "how can she do that!!?" It just looked way to complicated. Ash even taught me how to make a granny square once, and I thought I had it, but then she went home and so did my crocheting skills! Determined to give it another go before our holiday (I wanted to take something crafty away with me that didn't need much equipment) I used Pip Lincolne's tutorial vids on her blog meetmeatmikes and after a bit of trial and error something just went CLICK. And now I get it.

And now I can't stop.

I think I'm just going to keep churning these out until I have enough for a blanket.

Off to do another square now...see you!

Mr Coleman rocks!!

It's my Birthday today. Yes, lucky me. I wanted to show you something my lovely husband whipped up for my present.. He really is a clever guy, and I love that he bothered to make me a purse after my last one was recently stolen. Nice. It's a great to sight to watch Mr. Coleman at the sewing machine. He somehow manages to do it like a complete and utter...man. He stands up as he sews, and will finish a project the SAME DAY HE STARTS IT, unlike me, I have about 15 unfinished things on the go at all times.

Other nice things today have been breakfast in bed brought in by my awesome kids, morning tea with my brother and nephew, watching a Miss Marple this afternoon, enjoying a Turkish cheese and spinach Boreck for lunch down in Foostcray, and picking some beautiful flowers for myself on my walk home.

I'm still looking forward to a community meal with friends tonight, some yummy cheese and chocolate that Mr. Coleman and I will share once the kids have gone to bed, and dinner with my family on Saturday. This birthday is a fairly insignificant number, but I'm still loving the excuse to catch up with friends and fam and do nice thngs!!

And just when I thought i was all buntingd out!!!!

Bunting. Bunting. Bunting. Yes its very cool right now, I know. It seems that if you don't read Frankie or have bunting hanging up in your lounge room you're just not very hip these days. Bunting has become so popular that I wondered if I was starting to get a bit over it...until I went to England.

There was literally bunting hanging everywhere we went. In shops, streets, whole towns, houses, churches, even my brother in laws wedding. I totally realised that in England there is no "less is more" attitude for Bunting. More is more!!  And, the best bit about it all....it wasnt hip. It wasn't only cool people hanging up bunting. Bunting is sometimes hung up by sweet old ladies. Bunting is sometimes made out of crappy plastic, bought from the discount shops and strung up all over town. Bunting is made much more randomly then what we see here, and not always sewn straight. Bunting is sometimes bits of paper stapled onto string.

So, I've come back with a new passion for bunting. I'm going to make more of it, and worry less about it looking perfect. I'm going to embrace the "more is more" spirit and see how much bunting I can surround our family in before Mr. Coleman cracks it!! I'm going to try different shapes, sizes and materials and be much less fussy.

I've set myself a challenge to make a new bunting-type thing each season (thats 4 times a year.) Shoud be easy right? I'm starting my Spring one soon, in time to hang up for Miss Coleman's Birthday party in October.

In the meantime, enjoy some pics of Bunting from our recent holiday. I'll keep you posted on the Bunting challenge!

A bit of nice.

Hi lovely readers...

So I've been back in Aus a few days now after a wonderful month in the UK. Who would have guessed I'd be leaving lovely sunny England and returning to a freezing and miserable Australia!!!???

I've enjoyed my break from normal life way too much, and may just want to start living like I'm on permanent holiday! I was really inspired by so much craftiness, cuteness and vintage-ness (is that a word?) over there so the one thing I was looking forward to about getting home was to get making again asap! I look forward to making more stuff, and to use this space to share what I'm working on. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, I thought I'd share some of my favourite pics from our holiday...Not family photos, or famous sights, but the beautiful flowers that were everywhere! An English summer truly is a glorious thing and the flowers that we found in gardens, between cracks in the footpath and out in the wild were so cheerful and remind me of what a great trip we had, and that there is beauty all around us!
